As of 1st April 2009 the Gas Safe Register will replce the existing CORGI gas registration in Great Britain. It will become the official gas safety body. This includes both piped natural gas and liquid propane gas (LPG).
The new brand 'Gas Safe Register' is owned by HSE ( Health & Safety Executive) on behalf of gas engineers. This brand focuses solely on gas safety.
All gas appliances need to be installed and maintained by a Gas Safe Registered company after 1st April 2009.
For all those Land Lords out there; all existing Land Lord Safety Certificates issued by a CORGI registered engineer will still be valid until their expiry date. When renewing any gas Land Lord Safety Certificate after 1st April 2009 it must be completed by a Gas Safe registered engineer.
As always in an emergency if you smell gas or you think there may be a gas leak; turn off the gas at the meter, extinguish naked flames, open windows and leave the area. Seek medical advice if you feel unwell. Call the gas emergency free phone line on 0800 111 999.
