Scrap Metal Theft; A Serious Problem

Is it any wonder why the price of metals (such as lead) are sky high in today’s market when thieves are targeting properties both residential and commercial in a big way.

Daring thieves are now taking it one step further by removing lead from the roofs of peoples homes and work places.

Such an example of this is St Nicholas Church in Ipswich. Many churches across the country have been the victims of these thefts with insurance claims running into millions of pounds.

The St Edmundsbury Diocese are now taking strong precautions to protect the replacement lead which has been at the St Nicholas Church. Smart water technology has been applied to the new roof.

Smart Water is a colourless, odourless liquid which has the ability to mark items of property with a unique DNA style chemical formula. Each batch of Smart Water is totally unique and once applied to a surface it is virtually impossible to remove.

Detectable under ultra violet light, this artificial DNA gives a traceable identify to the metal. Smart water is transferred to thieves Skin and clothing showing traces of where the thieves have been. This DNA enables police to match the traces to individual properties
